Life Is A Video Game: Here's How To Level Up
Most people are passive participants in the game of life.
I know because I used to be one of them—aimlessly drifting, hoping things would change, and feeling like a victim of random circumstances.
Yup, that was me.
But what if I told you that you have more power over you life than you realize?
You can consciously direct your life.
Most people don't. They run on autopilot, never questioning their beliefs, never challenging their assumptions. They continue to play out the programming they received when they were younger.
Most people would rather complain about their life situation than take the radical responsibility that is required to get to the next level.
And I get it.
It's easier to blame everyone else. It's harder to accept the weight of responsibility.
I was stuck in that victim mindset until I encountered people who helped me challenge my beliefs and assumptions. I discovered books that made me think, Maybe I could be more?
Maybe I didn't have to let my past define me. Maybe I could let my desired future be the filter for my actions instead.
Many people think life is a series of random events they have no control over. Life just happens to them.
They become passive participants.
This is like handing over your game controller—hoping things work out—waiting for things to happen instead of actively playing the game yourself.
But life doesn't have to be random. You don't have to leave it up to chance.
Once I realized I could consciously direct my life—things shifted.
Not overnight, of course, but gradually, over time.
I didn't transform by accident. It happened because I consciously chose better habits and shifted my mindset.
It's a never-ending process but you can live life by design instead of by default.
Awaken your player and consciously choose to be an active participant in the video game of life.
Here's how.
[Game Paused.]
Before we dive deeper—I'm currently building The Player's Codex—a notion template designed to help you break free from the clutches of an unfulfilling existence and build a life you're excited to wake up to. It's a process I've refined over the years, and I'm dropping it Nov 17th. Stay tuned.
[Game resumed.]
Wake Up, Player. (Becoming Conscious)
Right now, most people are letting the computer play their character for them. They're running on programming, habits, and beliefs that were installed when they were younger.
They never question their beliefs.
They say things like, "That's just the way I am," becoming deeply identified with their programming. Deeply identified as the character in the game.
But you are different—you're here, reading this, ready to wake up.
Key 1: 3rd Person Perspective
Life is a video game—kinda like GTA.
But you are not the character in the game—you are the one holding the controller.
Get it?
Realizing this is liberating.
When you can view yourself objectively, you can unload outdated programming.
How can you make this realization?
Meditation.
Meditation helps you step into this observer role, allowing you to observe thoughts and emotions rather than being identified with them.
When you observe without identifying, you become free to respond rather than react. You can discard old stories that don’t serve you and keep what’s useful.
“What a liberation to realize that the “voice in my head” is not who I am. Who am I then? The one who sees that.” —Eckhart Tolle
From this place, you can play your character without letting the character play you.
Actionable Tip: Practice becoming aware right now. Simply observe your thoughts and surroundings. Notice them without getting caught up in them.
Key 2: Expand Your Consciousness (Curate Your Inputs)
Re-program your character by consciously curating your inputs.
Most people don’t realize how much what they consume shapes their thoughts and in turn their life.
You might think the stuff you consume doesn't affect you that much—but you'd be surprised.
Most of your thoughts are not even your own.
This becomes obvious the more you meditate.
During my morning meditation, as I observe my thoughts, it usually has to do with whatever I was consuming the night before.
There was even a period in my life where I was consuming a shit-ton of podcasts that featured a specific entrepreneur. My thoughts became echoes of his words.
It's honestly kind of mind-blowing when you notice how much you mirror what you take in. You might rethink what you allow in (if you are not already).
Curate high-quality inputs if you want high-quality outputs.
Consume content that is in alignment with your desired future.
To truly level up your character, you must expand your consciousness.
You may feel stuck in a certain situation. This is because your field of awareness is limited.
Open your mind.
Your only limit is your imagination.
Your environment restricts your imagination.
Expose yourself to new ideas, experiences, and people. Each new exposure expands your mental map, unlocking new pathways and revealing opportunities that were once hidden by your limited perspective.
Actionable Tip (1): Audit your thoughts. Can you make any connections between what you’re thinking and what you’ve consumed?
Actionable Tip (2): Audit the content you consume. Is it in alignment with the future you want to create?
Key 3: Stack Skills
Stacking skills will help you solve more complex problems, overcome challenges, and unlock new sectors of the game. Each skill you master opens you up to new opportunities.
Select a skill, one that resonates with you, then stack complementary skills.
Spend at least one hour a day learning this new skill.
For example, I picked up web design late last year. I made it a non-negotiable habit to dedicate at least one hour a day to learning and building. Some days I could put in three or four hours, but the minimum was always one.
This consistent practice led to rapid improvement. I built and published my own website from scratch. I've even earned money online using this skill. I know that by stacking complementary skills, such as networking and marketing, new sectors will continue to unlock.
Actionable Tip: Spend at least one hour a day learning a skill and building something with it.
I hope you found these keys useful.
Until next time, my friend.
