This Video Almost Didn't Happen...
Yo, yo, yo, what's good my friend?
Do you remember the letter I sent out on learning After Effects for youtube (Build in Public)?
Well here's the video I made!
Now let’s talk tech issues.
I’ve been working on a 2017 Macbook Air with 8GB of RAM—After Effects requires a minimum of 16GB, with 32GB recommended. Should’ve checked the required specs beforehand, but hindsight’s 20/20.
Long story short, my laptop doesn’t have the power to run After Effects.
As the project grew, the program kept glitching and freezing up on me.
The second half of the video is plain text for that reason—even that was a struggle so I didn’t bother stylizing it. Originally, I planned to animate the ball breaking out of the box, but… yeah, tech issues haha.
I took inspiration from retro computer screens and learned a lot about keyframes and timing animations. Also realized I need to learn sound design—wanted to add typing effects, whooshes, and background music, but my setup couldn’t handle it.
This video isn’t 100% (I already don’t like the script), but I’m posting it so I can move on. Videos will be on hold while I look into upgrading my gear.
Besides that, I have another deep dive newsletter dropping soon.
Thanks for rocking with me.
Until next time my friend,
—Priscilla [Player 2]
